Eventbrite was built to sell tickets. Mailchimp was built to sell email volume. Facebook Groups was built to keep people scrolling an ad-driven feed. Meetup and Eventbrite are now both owned by Bending Spoons, a holding company known for buying consumer apps, raising prices, and cutting support. Independence
Kannect is founder-run and not for sale to the holding-company circuit. It answers to the communities it serves, not to an acquirer's returns. When Bending Spoons bought Meetup and then Eventbrite, the playbook didn't change: raise prices, cut support, optimize for the spreadsheet. Kannect is the opposite of that playbook.
Verification
Every organization joins through a credit-card-verified trial. The card is not a paywall, it is a spam filter. Bots and fake organizations never reach the network. When a member discovers a community on Kannect, they know it is real. When you list your event, no scammer is listing one beside it.
Reach
Every message reaches every opted-in member. No algorithm decides who hears you. No ad budget controls who sees you. No feed buries you. We call this the Reach Promise — it is not a feature, it is the contract. If a member opted in, the message lands. Full stop.

Why this matters now
In 2024, Bending Spoons bought Meetup. In 2026, Bending Spoons bought Eventbrite. The two largest event platforms communities have relied on for two decades are now owned by the same holding company — the one whose well-documented playbook is to acquire a consumer brand, raise prices, cut support, and optimize for cash flow.
This is not a story about competition. It is a story about where the leverage lives. When the platform your community runs on is owned by a holding company, the platform's incentives are not your incentives. Price increases come without warning. Support degrades quietly. The roadmap shifts to what the spreadsheet asks for.

Sell or rent your data
Your member list is yours. We do not sell it, we do not rent it back to you as marketing, we do not share it with third parties.
Throttle who hears you
Every opted-in member gets every message. We do not introduce an algorithm that prioritizes posts. We do not charge to boost a message.
