Fill in a directory listing

Every field on the Add member form, what it is for, and which ones are required.

Applies toDashboardWebsite

The listing form is long, but only four fields are required. Everything else is there so a listing can carry as much or as little as it deserves.

Steps

  1. Open Engagement → Directory.
  2. Choose Add Member, then Add member under Add Manually.
  3. Work down the form.
  4. Choose Save Member Details.

The primary contact

Start with Search or Add Person. If the person is already in your community, find them and their details come with them. If not, add them here with First Name, Last Name, Contact Role, Contact Email and Contact Phone Number.

Show this listing in the public directory controls whether it appears on your website. Leave it off while you are still building the listing. This is the same switch as Hide Member on the directory row, so you can flip it from either place.

Directory Type, required

This is the section of your directory the listing belongs to, and the types are yours to invent. Members, Board of Directors, Locations, Sponsors, whatever your organization actually has. Use Create New Directory Type to add one.

One type holds as many listings as you like, and those listings can be on completely different membership plans, so you do not need a type per plan.

The listing itself

  • Member / Company Name, required. The official name of the member or company.
  • Category / Industry, required. Kannect uses this for filtering, so keep your categories consistent or the filter stops being useful.
  • Description and Short Preview. The preview is the brief summary shown in directory listings and previews, so it does the work of getting someone to open the full entry.
  • Logo / Profile Image. JPG, PNG, SVG, WebP or AVIF, up to 5MB. Optional, and as Kannect puts it, it helps members recognise the organization.
  • Member / Company Location, typed or dropped on the map.
  • Website, Email and Phone Number, all optional. The email is for members to contact them directly.
  • Social links, for example LinkedIn.
  • Tags.

Connecting it to your community

Add Groups, Programs, Memberships attaches the listing to a group, program or membership plan. This is where the Tier shown in your directory table comes from, so it is worth setting rather than leaving blank.

Start Date sets when the primary contact will be added and gains access.

Extra questions

New Custom Field adds something this listing needs that the standard fields do not cover, with a Field Title and Field Description. Use a saved field pulls one from your reusable field library instead, which is the better habit: build it once there and it is available on every listing and every invitation form.

Additional people

A listing can carry more than one person. Use Search Existing Member or Add New with a Job Role, and optionally an email and contact number, then Add To List. Useful for a sponsor with an account manager and a billing contact, or a department with several staff.
