Statuses and connection
Two different things on the same record. One is the label you choose. The other is how far into your community they actually are.
A person's record shows two things that both look like a status, and confusing them is the most common misreading of this screen.
Person Status: the label you choose
This is the one on the People list and in the Person Status dropdown on the form. It is yours to define. Kannect starts you with a set including Member, Contact, Alumni, Staff, Volunteer, Donor, Parent, Student and VIP, and the dropdown ends with + Add a new status so you can add your own.
It changes nothing about what the person can receive. It exists so you can find them again, which is why it is the filter on the People list.
Connection: how far in they are
This one Kannect sets, and it does change what happens. You will find it on the Connection & Reach tab of a person's record. In Kannect's own words:
- Contact: "This person is saved as a contact only. They will not receive any communications."
- Added: "This person has been added to the community but hasn't been invited yet."
- Invited: "This person has been invited to join the community but hasn't accepted yet."
- Connected: "This person is part of the community and can receive communications based on the options below."
- Left: "This person has left the organization and no longer has access."
- Removed: "This person was removed from the organization and no longer has access."
What a connected person can receive
Under the connection state, the same tab lists the channels, each with its own explanation:
- Email: "This member can receive emails from your organization, including announcements, events, resources, campaigns, and any updates to these."
- Push Notifications: "This member can receive push notifications in the mobile app for tasks, announcements, events, campaigns, and messages."
- Messages: "This member can receive direct and group messages in the mobile app."
- Discover web access, whether they can be found and reached through Discover.
Where a channel shows Full Access, Kannect explains it as: "This member has full access and can receive all communications and updates, including emails, push notifications, tasks, automated reminders, and direct or group messages."
